No one wants the Job!

Well I have to say I was one that thought something needed to change, something had to happen at the Club which would act as a catalyst to get us up and running again, winning games and earning those points to stay up without the constant fear of relegation!

A lot has been said about Mick McCarthy being good for the Club and I certainly agree with this, in his years he has taken us up to the Premiership and managed to keep us there. The only issue is, can he keep us there, only just! It seems he just hasn’t got what it takes to get the team up to mid table, which after all is what we should expect after a few seasons, isn’t it? As far as I am aware he’s had reasonable funds to buy players, in fact I think Wolves are kind of mid-table in the monies spent league but yet we are in the relegation zone in the league proper.

If that’s correct then surely we should be getting more for our buck. 

Taking the above into consideration and having given Mick enough time to prove his worth as a Premiership Manager, (certainly a fantastic Championship Manager and no doubt we will see him in the Premiership once again when he successfully steers a Championship team through promotion), it is time for a change, the problem now is who and here I think Steve Morgan’s plan has gone horribly wrong, no one seems to want the job!

I am not sure I understand why Steve and Alan Curbishley can’t agree. I say Alan Curbishley as it is quite obvious that this was the man that Steve had in mind. Surely it’s a win-win situation for any Manager.

The way I see it and think it should be done is...come and manage a Premiership side which is in the relegation zone for a few games, keep them up and you’re a hero (oh and let’s put a great big bonus for managing that) fail and they go down, where they were headed anyway and you can walk away and carry on looking for a Premiership job. I just feel that I would snap that up, keep this team up and be a hero in a position to now negotiate great terms for a new contract with them, not survive and walk away having spent a few weeks back in the game earning good money and not losing any face as no one can possibly say you failed, surely that’s a win-win situation!

Both of these stories I find quite amusing, I mean to fire MM without actually having someone ready to step in I find ridiculous after all I would certainly rather have MM there fighting the cause than no manager at all, I mean I think he had to go but only if you had someone for the job otherwise let Mick stay, he’s a fighter and would have done his all to keep us up, to get rid of him and appoint no one makes no sense!

The second link well.....I almost feel like letting Steve Morgan know that there’s another great Manager out there who frankly does have fight in him, is great at Championship level and I know he’s out of a job at the moment...his name...MICK McCARTHY, maybe you could approach him too!

Been away!

Well since I last wrote a on here a lot has happened! If we go back to the start of the season we were flying, I think we had 7 point in our first four matches, looking at travelling to Molineux with a few local fans to watch our team ‘perform’ and hoping that this year wouldn’t be the same as last year...on the edge of our seats come end of season hoping that some other team might do us a favour!

Well we are certainly heading towards needing a favour or two, I haven’t heard from any of the other local fans in relation to getting up there (although I am hoping to be there for the Man U game!), and I am already on the edge of my seat!

Mick has been great for the Club. He has achieved something that no one has managed before, he got us up (as did Dave Jones) and kept us up for two seasons (unlike Dave Jones). I was happy to hear Jez Moxey praise Mick and what he has done for the Club and look forward to seeing him managing another Club soon. I think they, the Board, have also taken action at the right time, I agree in not chopping and changing at a moment’s notice’s and think it is vital to allow a team and Manager to sort it out. However, I also think that if it isn’t working then something needs to be fixed and right or wrong, its generally the Manager who draws the short straw! What can a board do? Offer more money...well yes but that’s if they have it, change the majority of the squad...you gotta be kidding, so the only real choice is the Manager!

What I am not sure about is whether Mick is actually a good Premier League Manager, he’s certainly a fantastic Championship Division Manager and should he end up there again will no doubt be fighting for the top of the league very soon, will probably get them up to the Premiership in 2 or 3 seasons but will then struggle, probably?

So where to now? Who are we going to get in this 2 week window before our next match against Newcastle...I know of a free Italian! Ahahahahaha, we will just have to wait and see.

Auction

No, its not auctioning the Club off as a going concern (and no I don't think comments like 'well its going nowhere' are constructive) but rather a real auction of Wolves memorabilia. Here is the official press release:

Auctioneer uncovers family connection in rare Wolves programmes lot...

A collection of over 150 football programmes that, dating from 1947/48 through to 1968, chart the history of Wolverhampton Wanderers during the mid-20th century, is to be sold at Cuttlestones Auctioneers and Valuers new Wolverhampton Auction Rooms on Friday, 4th November.

The collection includes a particularly sought-after copy of a Wolves Vs Man Utd programme from 28th September 1957; the last match Wolves played against Manchester United’s ‘Busby’s Babes’ before the tragic Munich air crash that claimed the lives of the United squad on 6th Feb 1958 (Wolves won 3-2).

But for auctioneer Dave Eglington a piece of history far closer to home was uncovered as he examined the collection for cataloguing. A handwritten note of the goal scorers in the programme for Wolves vs Everton on 21st February 1948 lists one Tommy Eglington, who just happens to be Dave’s great uncle and who played for Everton and Northern Ireland, as one of the goal scorers; Everton went on to win the match 4-2. Dave says:

“One of the best things about this job is that you never know what’s going to come through the door next, and this was a classic example. As a keen football fan, I found this collection particularly interesting and, while I was aware that great uncle Tommy was playing for Everton in the 1940s, I certainly didn’t expect to come across a programme with his name hand written in it - albeit misspelt - as a goal scorer!

“Equally rare is the opportunity to procure a programme with direct links to the Busby’s Babes tragedy. These programmes are few and far between and attract serious collectors; examples that have sold at auction have fetched significant sums, so it will be interesting to see what this achieves in the context of such a comprehensive collection of Wolves memorabilia.”

The lot is set to come under the hammer at Cuttlestones’ Friday, 4th November 2011 Specialist Collectors’ Sale; which also happens to be the first major auction to be held at the company’s new Wolverhampton Sale Rooms on Clarence Street, off Waterloo Road.
